When his career finished, he became coach to VEU Feldkirch in Austria. Within a short period of time he had turned them into one of the top teams, and within seven years they were Austrian champions five times, winners of the Alpen League three times, and in 1999 they became champions of Europe.

In 1997 he was appointed coach to the Swiss national team. Again he turned a team that had underperformed into one of the top ten teams in Europe. They reached the quarter-finals of the World Championships five times and achieved qualification to the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Ralph bases his success on honesty, directness and positive thinking. In his presentations Ralph explores the elements necessary to build a high performance team. Ralph places team spirit above individual success, a philosophy he also explores in his book Teamlife: from failure to success.
